Position Description
Pioneer Technical Services is currently looking for an Environmental Technician that conducts tests and field investigations to obtain data for use by environmental, engineering and scientific personnel in determining sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water, and soil. Generally accepted sampling practices will need to be followed in order to perform assigned tasks. The Environmental Technician collects samples for chemical, physical laboratory analysis and performs field testing according to prescribed standards to determine the composition of solid and liquid substances using portable field equipment. Candidate must have a valid Class D driver’s license. Position 18-2.

Education: Associates Degree Preferred, Field of Study: Environmental/Civil Engineering Technology or related field or relevant Environmental Sampling Experience

Experience: No prior experience required. Prior environmental related experience preferred

Computer Skills: Basic computer skills required. Knowledge in MS word, Excel and Access Preferred.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
• Maintain project logbook records or computer program files.
• Record laboratory or field data, including numerical data, test results, photographs, or summaries of visual observations.
• Perform environmental quality work in field or office settings.
• Produce environmental reports, tabulating data and preparing charts, graphs, or sketches.
• Collect and analyze samples, such as air, soil, and water.
• Prepare and package environmental samples for shipping or testing.
• Maintain process parameters and evaluate process anomalies.
• Review technical documents to ensure completeness and conformance to sampling requirements.
• Receive, set up, test, or decontaminate equipment.
• Review work plans to schedule activities.
• Provide technical engineering support in the planning of projects.
• Obtain product information, identify vendors or suppliers, or order materials or equipment to maintain inventory.
• Time will be spent in the field determining specific field parameters and conducting investigations to obtain data that supports project objectives.
• The technician must operate and understand data from field instruments such as pH meters, conductivity meters, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), etc; operation and maintenance of sampling equipment such as peristaltic pumps, soil augers, automated samplers, etc.; compiling analytical data in electronic formats and forwarding all pertinent information to the project manager.
The technician must be mechanically inclined and have the ability to learn how to operate and maintain a Geoprobe unit.
• Routinely interact with oversight personnel, regulatory agencies, project managers, clients and at times, the general public.
