Position Description
Pioneer Technical Services, Inc. is currently recruiting for a Construction Inspection and Materials Testing Technician in its Geotechnical and Materials Testing Laboratory located in Bozeman, MT. This office is looking for a self-motivated, committed individual that works without frequent direction. This position will consist of providing field inspection services and geotechnical /materials testing in the laboratory. Field Inspection services include field density testing using a nuclear density gauge, fresh concrete sampling, and rebar inspection. Laboratory testing will include performing atterbergs, proctors, sieve analysis and numerous other geotechnical soils testing. Other duties will include data management, equipment maintenance, and sample organization. The Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Manager or Project Engineer.
Position Requirements
Project experience in general construction, field density testing, concrete testing, soil sampling, and materials testing as well as experience with MicroSoft Word and Excel programs is preferred but not required. Pioneer will provide on the job training to perform field testing and laboratory testing tasks. Candidate must have a valid Class D driver’s license.

• Communicate with Contractor or Site Supervisor regarding testing results and any failing tests or problems.
• Confer with supervisor to determine project details such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions.
• Inspect project site and evaluate contractor work to detect deficiencies and ensure conformance to design specifications and applicable codes.
• Prepare daily field inspection reports that document project activities and data.
• Conduct materials testing and analysis using provided tools and equipment.

Education: High School Diploma. College education preferred, but not required.

Field of Study: Engineering, Soil Science, or related/equivalent experience

Experience: Construction experience helpful, but not required.
Computer Skills: Must be able to complete basic computer tasks that include Excel, Microsoft Word.


WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position will include working on field/construction sites where you will be exposed to the elements and also includes working within a soils laboratory environment that requires frequent standing and lifting, and the use of a wheelbarrow.
